RENZ+OEI is a Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary design-build studio founded by Jean Oei and Gabriel Renz in 2015. The studio’s diverse background of art, architecture, design, fabrication and technology brings a unique versatility and expertise to the practice. RENZ+OEI is committed to innovative design and fabrication through research and analysis of the core issues surrounding each project. Building on the combined experience of their completed work and ongoing Research + Design, they approach every project as unique and search for original solutions.

FOUNDERS

Jean

Singapore-born Jean is an architect and a skilled decoder of complex architectural programming. Prior to co-founding RENZ+OEI, Jean spent over 16 years with Morphosis Architects, working on many award-winning projects with Pritzker Prize laureate Thom Mayne. She previously held a leadership role at The New School, overseeing campus and space planning, as well as leading university-wide space initiatives in New York City and Paris. Jean holds a BS in Architecture from Kent State University and a MArch from the Southern California Institute of Architecture.

gabriel

With over 25 years of experience in the design and construction industry, Gabriel’s expertise includes owning and operating Architectural Metal fabrication businesses, working as a construction manager, owner’s representative, general contractor, and journeyman structural steel fabricator, among other things. Known for being a team player and finding inventive solutions to complex challenges, Gabriel has frequently collaborated with clients, architects and artists to realize their visions for unique interior spaces, complex kinetic structures and large-scale sculptural works of art. Gabriel brings his deep knowledge and experience to every aspect of the studio's work, making him an invaluable resource to have on any type of project!
